Simply the RESS

This Guide will give a high level run through of the RESS, who the key administrative bodies are and what their role is and of the auction process itself. We will look at the different categories within the package for solar, community and all projects to highlight to key differences in obligations between those project types.

Guide overview

With the Renewable Energy Support Scheme (RESS) auctions due to be held in June this year, being fully briefed on the scheme is important for any business. Submitting a bid into an auction takes only a few minutes, but coming to a clear decision on what that bid should be is the result of weeks and months of analysis, communication and senior team briefings. Our Simply the RESS guide will provide a clear and concise overview of the key touch points that an organisation will need to be aware of in order to prepare for the auction. It is written to enable technical and non-technical staff to understand the mechanics, price drivers and fundamentals of the Scheme.

Our guide will give a high level run through of the RESS, who the key administrative bodies are and what their role is and of the auction process itself. We will look at the different categories within the package for solar, community and all projects to highlight to key differences in obligations between those project types. It will step through the key regulatory instruments that have enabled and then shaped the design of the scheme. It will begin with EU policy and how that has flowed through into the Department of Communications, Climate Action and Environment renewable targets, their plans for renewable assets and the funding mechanism through the PSO. Then will draw out the legal basis for the scheme and tie that in to some of the lessons learned from other EU jurisdictions.

For Senior business leaders the obligations that the RESS will place on participants is an important aspect of entry. The posting of Performance Bonds will be one of these obligations and understanding the size of bond, form of bond accepted, conditions upon which it will be called and what documentation is required will enable businesses to fully prepare ahead of auction. We will look at the different categories within the package for solar, community and all projects to highlight to key differences in obligations between those project types.
